Needham Fastpitch's O'Leary Spins a Perfect Game

The Needham Fastpitch 18u girls softball team played Parkway (West Roxbury/Roslindale) on Sunday, Oct. 2 at Needham’s Claxton Field . Junior Jacqui O’Leary took the mound for Needham.

O'Leary clearly came to play and was undoubtedly on her game when in the first inning, she retired the opposing batters 1-2-3, all with strikeouts. In the bottom of the first, Needham’s offense came out hot producing 5 runs with a key bunt from Sophie Shulman and big hits from Alyssa DiBella, Kaly Davidson and Lydia Tsouridis.

O’Leary went back to work in the second inning punching two strikeouts and forcing a pop fly to Emilie Kahn-Boesel at second base to retire the side. Needham’s offense remained focused and brought in four more runs in the bottom of the second inning.

In the third inning, the first Parkway batter hit a shot to deep in the gap at right center. However, Needham’s speedy center fielder, DiBella, ran it down travelling a great distance across the outfield and catching it on the run for the ESPN highlight reel play of the day. The rest of the way the talented Parkway bats, which are typically potent in games with Needham, experienced a mix of strikeouts, pop flies, and one smart diving stab by the shortstop, Tsouridis.
